Opening Hours The Institute is open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 8pm, the Photo library from 10am to 7pm. The Institute remains closed in the period between Christmas and the New Year. Moreover, we would also like to draw your attention to the public holidays and the closing days.
Conditions of use Access to the Institute is only possible with valid user ID cards, which are issued on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am - 11am and on Wednesdays from 2pm – 3pm. As a general rule, it is necessary to have completed a doctorate in order to be eligible for a user ID card. A letter of recommendation and a passport-sized photograph must also be submitted. Masters and doctoral students wishing to apply for an ID card must additionally submit a short outline of their research project; this should be between one and two pages in length.

The Institute is situated in the historical centre of Florence, a few minutes’ walk from the cathedral and the Piazza della S.S. Annunziata.
By train Eurostar, Brenner express, Intercity train to the main station, Stazione S. Maria Novella: from the main station, follow the signs in the direction of the cathedral. Upon reaching the cathedral, turn left into the Via dei Servi, which you should follow until you come to the Piazza S.S. Annunziata. The Via G. Capponi runs parallel to the church of S.S. Annunziata; follow this until you reach the second parallel side street, where you then turn right into the Via Giuseppe Giusti. After walking for a further 50 metres, you will come to the IAH, which is located on the left-hand side of the street.
By car Approaching from the north: take the exit Firenze north, follow the ring road in the direction of the centro / Piazzale Michelangelo, continuing until you reach the Piazzale Donatello, then turn right into the Via V. Alfieri: the Via Giuseppe Giusti is the next on your right. Approaching from the south: take the exit Firenze south, follow the ring road in the direction of the centro / Fortezza, continuing until you reach the Piazzale Donatello; after the roundabout, turn right into the Via V. Alfieri: the Via Giuseppe Giusti is the next on your right. The Institute is located in the large Palazzo on the right-hand side. Please bear in mind that you will require a special permit to drive a passenger car in Florence’s city centre. It is not possible to park at the Institute itself.
